Cannot reproduce on the newest version. It could be resolved with other issues.

 still reproduceable:
  1. go to the admin panel of the demoshop and activate all variants of the product 3570 (Kuyichi Jeans Anna or any other product with many variants).
  2. In the frontend of the shop add the parent product to the compare list go to the compare list and click on the dropdown to select a variant.
  3. You will see the effect in the attached screenshot.

However If I see it correctly it does not sense to show the dropdown selection for variants here:
  1. It does not have any effect right now.
  2. What should the effect be in this case? Reload the compare list with this variant instead of the parent?
  3. What about multidimensional variants?
